Meet The Apex Performance Team

Richard Amoako, OTD, BS Kinesiology
Director of Sports Medicine & Performance

Richard Amoako brings a unique combination of clinical expertise, athletic performance training, and soccer development experience to APEX Performance Lab.

He earned his Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Western New England University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from UMass Amherst.

With more than six years of experience coaching youth soccer players, Richard combines his medical and movement science background with a player-centered approach to athletic development. He works extensively with athletes on both performance enhancement and long-term development.

Richard’s expertise spans multiple areas of athletic performance, including strength, power, speed development, mobility, flexibility, coordination, and body control. His background in occupational therapy allows him to take a comprehensive approach to return-to-play progression, helping athletes safely transition back into training and competition following injury.

In addition to physical performance, Richard specializes in cognitive and visual performance training, including attention and focus, visual tracking, peripheral awareness, and dual-task performance - the ability to process information and make decisions while moving under pressure.

His work also extends into sports rehabilitation and mental performance, helping athletes develop healthy recovery habits, stress management strategies, confidence, and emotional regulation to perform consistently at a high level.

From a soccer development standpoint, Richard works with athletes on technical skill development, game understanding, positional awareness, and film analysis to help players better understand movement patterns and decision-making within the game.

At APEX Performance Lab, Richard will play a key role in building a complete athlete development system that integrates performance training, rehabilitation, cognitive development, and soccer-specific performance.
